NEW 2010 BMW 5-SERIES
2nd January 2010. The 2010 5-Series is certain to be the very best executive BMW yet, offering more room and hi-tech development than any of its competitors or forerunners. New car orders will be taken from March 20, 2010 and the list price starts at £27,555 On The Road. The new BMW 5 Series has inherited the interior from the latest 7-Series and is undoubtedly more roomy than the outgoing model, particularly in the rear (offering 13mm more rear leg room). A new ParkAssist function scans the kerbside for an appropriate space - so drivers simply need to depress the brake and throttle to ease into the space - clever stuff! An on-board camera provides an all-round view - and 4-wheel steering reduces its turning circle half a metre. Uncharacteristically, BMW is showing great generosity by including leather trim, the BMW Professional Radio and Bluetooth hands-free on all models. There are new Controls such as EDC and DDC: the latter changes steering, chassis and ride/ damper settings from Normal to Comfort then Sport and on to the hardest "Sport plus". Remarkably, the new BMW 520d returns more than 56 mpg and emmits 133 gpkm of CO2. But if it's power you are after, the new 550i is a 4.4L V8 and has more power than the old M5 model. In between, the new BMW 525d, 530d or 535d complete the diesel lineup. The petrol powered BMW 5 Series are surprising performers: the new BMW 523i offers 204 PS, reaches 60 mph in under 8 seconds and has a top speed of 148 mph - though the CO2 figure is 177 gkm and it returns 37 mpg overall. The BMW 528i is 258 PS with a 0-62 mph time of 6.5 seconds - returning 36 mpg and with 182 gkm CO2. The BMW 535i is a flying machine but returns a quite incredible 33 mpg with 199 gkm CO2. Discounts are unlikely for the first few months - so call Broadspeed mid-March to find ot what saving is expected across the new BMW 5 Serie range.
New BMW X1 x-Drive 2.0d
The new X1 is BMW's latest 4x4 model and the first truly mini-SUV to hit the marketplace. Though the BMW X5 was far from the first Range Rover rival, BMW has remained well tuned into consumer demand. The mid size BMW X3 arrived fully five years ago, but it has been only a matter of months since the Q5 arrived and the new GLK was announced. And so far, neither has produced a competitor for the BMW X6 crossover vehicle. The BMW X1 is a super-compact aimed directly at the new LRX from Land Rover and Q3 from Audi, neither of which will become available in car dealer showrooms before 2011. BMW buyers worldwide have a wide choice of engines in the X1 – but only diesel power is to be offered in the UK. Three 2.0L motors offer 141PS 2WD (called 18d), 174PS 2WD (called 12d) and a 201PS 4WD (called the 23d). The smaller two are rearwheel drive whilst 4WD adds £1280 and £1305 respectivey. Interestingly, the xDrive 4WD option costs extra in terms of performance, fuel economy and CO2 - as well as the list price. Official showroom prices for the BMW X1 have not yet been announced, but the new BMW X1 range will arrive with BMW dealers early in 2010; orders can be placed from late 2009 onwards.
New BMW 320d Efficient Dynamics
The new for 2010 BMW 320d Efficient Dynamics is cleaner and greener and more economical than any previous BMW 3-series model. It will be most appealing to business users and those with the environment at the top of their priority list, achieving almost 70 mpg whilst emitting a class-leading 109 gkm. The new 320d will be first seen at the motorshow at Frankfurt, though its greener Efficient Dynamic programme was first seen two years ago, when all BMW 320d with manual transmission had tyres that were both active aero and low-roll resistant and the stop / start feature. Efficient Dynamics hitherto, has been a relatively low key feature (Mercedes-Benz by comparison trails its Blue Efficiency loudly) however it is BMW that has the cleaner models. The 2010 eco has additional fuel efficiency measures that cost less to run and offer lowest in class CO2. Lower BHP (but higher torque), longer finaldrive, new 16" Aerodynamic rims and lowered suspension height all help. These tweaks result in a BMW 320d eco that generates 161PS (about 15PS fewer than the normal 320d). The new 320d takes under half a second extra to reach 60 mph and top speed is down by just 3mph. The really good news is that the new car will cost £35 PA tax disc and 13 per cent benefitinkind. BMW says its new 320d eco will account for up to 50 per cent of 3-Series sales in the UK, with business buyers accounting for an even greater proportion. The new BMW 320d eco is a real step forward, on several fronts.
